Impact Story: March 2023

Meet the Beasley Family

Rising Above is impacting the special-needs community in many ways. One of those way is through our online community groups.

We have groups for moms and dads that meet throughout the week. Here’s the story of how that community group has impacted the Beasley family from Chris’s perspective.

Tell us a little about your family:

My husband & I have been married for 31 years. We have 2 kids; our son is 20 and our daughter is 17. We all enjoy video games, although we don’t all play the same games. My daughter and I enjoy baking together. Our daughter is on the autism spectrum and is mostly nonverbal.

How did you first learn about Rising Above?

I first learned about Rising Above from listening to other special needs podcasts, likely Sandra Peoples’ previous podcast.

How has Rising Above impacted your life?

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed connecting with other moms who have challenges similar to mine through my online community group, and I especially appreciate the focus on our hope in Jesus, as opposed to many worldly connections in the special-needs community that tend to be draining.

Are there specific Rising Above events that your family enjoys?

I love the yearly By the Brook event for us moms, and I especially enjoy the fun Friday evening part of the event!

Please share anything else you have found encouraging or that has been vital in your journey as a special-needs family.

I believe having a weekly “focus session” on Jesus & the Word in the community groups plays a vital part in sustaining us on the special needs journey. And I learn so much from the input we all give during these sessions.

We’re so grateful for the Beasley family and their willingness to share their story.

Because you give, Rising Above can create spaces for parents of children with special needs to build community, make lifelong friendships, and ultimately point one another to Jesus!

Rising Above Ministries' mission is to provide hope and encouragement to special-needs families both locally and around-the-world, and offering events for families with special needs is moving that mission forward in amazing ways!
